- Hubbardston MA - Town Administrator
Hubbardston, MA. (pop. 4758) is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive, community-oriented leader to serve as its next Town Administrator. The community adopted a strong Town Administrator position through the approval of Chapter 292 of the Acts of 2012. This quintessential, New England community, is situated in the hill country of central Massachusetts in Worcester County. This predominantly rural community has approximately 42 square miles of land mass and is proud of its open spaces, has a strong commitment to protect and enhance its rural character, yet is located just 18 miles from Worcester which contains world class medical, educational, and cultural assets while providing numerous employment opportunities for its residential population. Led by a five member Select Board, with a traditional open town meeting form of government, the Town Administrator oversees 25 FT employees with 60+/- PT staff and has approved FY2023 town/school budget of $10,055,687 (the approved budget for the schools is less than the actual regional assessment and will need to be reconciled via a Special Town Meeting). The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills which are essential for success in this position with a commitment to providing excellent customer service. BA/BS required, advanced degree preferred, with a minimum of 1-3 years of municipal management and leadership experience or the equivalent in business, not-for-profit management or higher education administrative experience in a college or University. The Town of Auburn, NH (pop 6000), is seeking an experienced professional to serve as its next Town Administrator after the passing of its first and only Town administrator who served for 17 years. Auburn is located in southeast NH near the junction of routes 93 and 101. - Village of Johnson Vermont - Village Water-Light General Manager
The Village of Johnson Vermont is seeking candidates with the right combination of municipal and utilities management to serve as its Village and Utilities General Manager. An experienced manager of an electric utility with skills that could be applied to the general management of the village would be the ideal candidate since approximately 60%-70% of the position is committed to managing the utilities. The Village of Johnson is comprised of about one square mile within the Town of Johnson and serves approximately 950 electric customers and 450 water and sewer accounts. Village is responsible for the electric utility, it also oversees the water and sewer departments, whose work is contracted to an outside vendor. The Village employs 5 “linesmen” and shares four office staff with the Town of Johnson. Johnson, the quintessential “Norman Rockwell” community is nestled in the Green Mountains of North/Central Vermont.
For the right candidate this would be a full-time position with a salary range to $100k and a generous benefits package; starting salary commensurate with qualifications. Candidates that have an interest in the part-time position of either Utilities Superintendent or Village Manager should also apply although the combined FT position would be ideal. - Avon MA - Deputy Chief of Police
The Town of Avon, MA is seeking a Deputy Chief of Police to assist the Chief of Police lead this full-service police department of 16 full-time sworn officers, 5 part-time/special officers, and 7 support staff, including dispatchers. The selected candidate is expected to be an integral part of the Department’s succession plan. The Deputy Chief reports to the Chief of Police and has responsibility for performing general and specialized law enforcement duties and administrative work in the coordination, planning, review, and supervision of the activities in the department. With approximately 4,500 residents, Avon is a quintessential New England community located in Norfolk County. With easy access to I-93 and I-95, Avon is just 17 miles south of Boston, and 51 miles from Providence, RI. Avon is a short drive to beaches on the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Cod. The Town is governed by a 3-member Selectboard that also serve as Police Commissioners, with an appointed Town Administrator.
Candidates must possess unquestioned integrity, a thorough knowledge of police administration and operations, possess proven management and leadership skills and demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective relationships with employees, public safety partners, town departments, the business community, schools, and the citizens. The candidate must have experience in the supervision and oversight of criminal investigations, disciplinary matters, training, policy and with the growth and development of officers. Experience with accreditation is desirable.
A bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Administration or related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred. Fifteen (15) years progressively responsible law enforcement with at least five (5) years in supervisory, command and administrative positions in a union environment, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required. Candidate must be a graduate of a full time MA Police Academy or able to obtain MA certification within a reasonable time period. Salary range to $140,000; starting salary commensurate with qualifications; including educational incentive and comprehensive benefits package.

There are 32 full-time town employees, 33 part-time employees and 52 call members of the Fire & Rescue Department. In addition, there are well over 125 active resident volunteers who serve on the Town’s Boards and Committees.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field; a Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or related degree is preferred, as well as previous professional experience in public administration or management. Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official (MCPPO), designation is preferred. Salary range is $140,000 to $170,000 commensurate with qualifications and professional experience.
