Littleton, NH - Fire Chief

The Town of Littleton, New Hampshire (population 6,000) is conducting a search for the position of Fire Rescue Chief. Specifically, the Town is seeking a fire/EMS service professional with top-notch administrative skills and a sense of humor will thrive in this vibrant community. This creative and resourceful chief fire officer will have a successful approach to leading fire rescue services and operating high-quality programs that meet the broad needs, demands and lifestyles of a diverse and dynamic community. The Chief will join a newly energized leadership committed to providing excellent services to the entire Littleton community.
Littleton is a White Mountains Region destination known for adventurous outdoor recreation; for its biking, hikes, boating, fishing, waterfalls, scenic vistas and many year-round downhill sports options. The Town of Littleton enjoys extensive development and growth including a rapidly expanding commercial and industrial base.
The Department covers an area of 54.1 square miles from a centrally located fire facility. The Department is an ISO Class 5/9 full-service fire rescue organization that has a total of 12 full-time personnel and 12 on-call personnel. The Fire Chief serves as the Town’s Emergency Management Director. There are a total of approximately 350 fire and 800 transport EMS calls per year. The current annual operating budget of the Fire Rescue Department is approximately $1.6 million.
The new Fire Rescue Chief follows the retirement of a long time chief and will guide the Department forward including leading the organization through the ongoing integration of ALS transport EMS. The Chief is appointed by the Town Manager. Candidates must have strong leadership and managerial skills combined with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A proven, success record of experience in progressively responsible supervisory, administrative and command assignments is also required.
Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college, a Masters’ Degree highly preferred; 10 years of municipal fire/rescue experience with at least 7 years of experience as a command officer in a comparable or larger organization. The Chief must have completed career firefighter certification 1 and 2, ICS 400, 800a. Participation in the Executive Fire Officer Program and Pro Board Fire Officer IV certification are preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Candidates must have demonstrated experience and skill within the following critical areas: budgeting, crafting collaborative interagency relationships, pacing change, fireground management, incident command and emergency management.
It is preferred, however not required, that the new Fire Chief establish residency in Littleton. Hiring range is $92,000 - $108,000 depending on qualifications.
