Presque Isle, ME (approx. pop. 8,800) is seeking a dynamic leader with demonstrated organizational, administrative and management skills to serve as its next City Manager. This is a full-time position that requires a visionary leader who can continue the transformation of the City in the growth of the downtown, is a person who can oversee significant infrastructure projects and who can provide creative solutions to the City’s need for additional housing stock to support employers and employees in the region. Situated in the heart of Aroostook County in Northern Maine and 20 miles from the Canadian border, Presque Isle is the hub of the region. Home to two colleges, Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital and Presque Isle International Airport, the City also offers year-round recreational activities that are among the best in all of New England. The City owns and operates its own industrial park, providing economic development opportunities for the region.
The City has an annual operating budget of approximately $15M with an additional $8M budget for the schools and is on a calendar budget year. There are 110 Full Time and 100 Part Time employees. The City Manager has 14 direct reports including the departments of Police, Fire, Finance, Assessing, Public Works, Solid Waste, Recreation, Facilities, Library, Human Resources, Airport, Administration, Community Development and Grant Writing. The City Manager reports to a seven-member City Council. A bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years municipal management experience with supervisory responsibilities is desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities may also be considered. A strong sense of community engagement with residents and business owners along with a respect for the rich, cultural past of Presque Isle are a must have for any candidate. Salary range to $120,000. Starting salary commensurate with qualifications. Additional compensation would be considered for the right candidate with exceptional qualifications and experience.
