Lebanon NH - Planning and Development Director

Lebanon, NH (14,282 pop.), is seeking an innovative, proactive leader to serve as the Planning & Development Director. Critical to the city’s growth and vitality, the Planning & Development Director is responsible for managing the city’s master planning, economic development, and code enforcement initiatives. The Director also oversees staff support to the planning board, zoning board of adjustment, economic development commission, heritage commission, pedestrian and bike advisory committee, conservation commission, West Lebanon revitalization advisory committee, and the class VI roads advisory committee. Encompassing about 40 square miles along the Connecticut River at the crossroads of two major interstates, I-89 and I-91, in the Upper Connecticut River Valley of New Hampshire, the City of Lebanon is the hub of what the United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has identified as the most populated micropolitan statistical area in the United States and was formerly named by Forbes Magazine as the strongest town/micropolitan area in the country. With a diverse economic engine driven by a unique combination of health institutions, education, corporate headquarters, high tech/bio tech industry, local businesses, and a robust year-round tourist industry based on the plentiful natural resources of the area, Lebanon is an extremely desirable destination for the right Planning & Development Director candidate.

Boston is a two-hour drive or 45-minute flight out of the Lebanon City Airport. Concord, the state capital and Manchester, the state’s largest city, are about a 1-hour drive. Lebanon boasts views of the White Mountains and Vermont’s Green Mountains yet is less than a two-hour drive to the New Hampshire Seacoast. Operating under a city charter with a council/manager form of government, the Director reports directly to a Deputy City Manager. Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Master’s degree and 7-10 years of relevant progressively responsible municipal planning and economic development experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary range to $2,500 per week with excellent benefits. Starting salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Lebanon is an equal opportunity employer.
