Southington CT - Fire Chief

The Town of Southington Connecticut (pop. 43,069) is seeking to fill the position of Fire Chief. The Department consists of 90 employees (33 career, 55 Volunteer, 2 civilian) with an annual operating budget of 4.2 million.  In 2019, the Department responded to 2,368 emergency calls.  The Chief is appointed by the Board of Fire Commissioners, the Fire Chief serves as a key member of the Town’s management team.  A Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Business or Public Administration is required.  A Master’s Degree, as well as, being enrolled in or a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officers Program is preferred.  

 

Interested candidates must have a minimum of 15 years of progressive fire service experience, as well as, a minimum of five years of experience in a senior command position (rank of Captain or above).  Candidates must have or obtain certification as Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I and Incident Safety Officer within one year of appointment. Fire Instructor II certification is preferred. Candidates must be certified as a Connecticut or National Registry EMT-B at the time of appointment. Candidates must have or obtain a Connecticut driver’s license required within three months of appointment.
