Brockton, MA (approx. 96,000 pop.), is seeking an experienced, innovative and professional Commissioner of Public Works to lead and manage all operations and personnel in the Department of Public Works. This includes the following Divisions: Administration, Operations, Refuse, Engineering, Water and Sewer, including preparation of the Public Works budgets. The Commissioner is responsible for directing and assigning personnel in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements, civil service regulations and city ordinances; directing construction of public works projects, including street reconstruction, infrastructure and treatment plant improvements, operations and maintenance; managing snow operations all the while reporting to the Mayor and working with the City Council, Board and Commissions, Federal and State Agencies as well as other outside agencies.
Centrally located 25 miles south of Boston and 30 miles north of Providence, RI, this thriving and history rich “City of Champions” is located in Plymouth County. The sixth largest city in the Commonwealth, Brockton is 21.6 square miles with more than 335 miles of public and private roads. The Commissioner leads a department of 106 personnel with an FY21 operating budget of approximately $61 mil.
